“How we forget and inflate ourselves with the knowledge we think is absolute.”

“To accept and acknowledge that we are in trouble is the first step towards getting out of it. The second is to know that we have arrived here by our own lack of vigilance . The third is the determination to do what it takes to get out of it. The fourth is to remember that our suffering has a purpose, though we may not be able to see it, dunked as we are under the murky water of our circumstances.”

Above are some of the lines from the book and there are many more that enlightens us and uplifts us as we are not the only one in this world with troubles but it is part of life. In this book the author Kamla K. Kapur has co-related Rumi’s teachings with her own experiences. She has brought about similarities with other religions, saints and sages especially Guru Nanak. This is my first book on Rumi and it was like a balm, soothing my nerves. It invokes on us the the inner strength in our character to fight against the odd and difficult circumstances. Many a times we forget about the bounties bestowed upon us by God that we end up complaining and yet , when we introspect our sorrows are just our inability to face situations  that life brings upon us, we forget that life is full of ups and downs. The author rightly says that the Sufis venerate sufferings and Rumi emphasises that all suffering is a gift.
